As a massage therapist, I touch people constantly but hypnosis is a tad different. I will always ask permission to touch a shoulder or a hand at the beginning of the session and may do so from time to time throughout the session.
The interview takes place in the first session of a particular issue. Who you are, what you are like, what issue you face or improvement you want to make, how to approach your session and personal questions are all asked in this part of the session. It's like a 'getting to know you' section of the hypnosis. It takes the longest but it helps me cater your session to fit you and you alone.
Paperwork is very important for the hypnotist to get to know you and keep your info handy. Your personal info, slight medical info, the session plan and outcome and hypnotist notes all find their way into the paperwork. It is held confidential and will not be shown to anyone or released without your consent or by a court order.
This is used to record the session, to sometimes make a master tape of the session for the client to take home with them, for the hypnotist to go over later for educational porpuses or just as a recording of that particular session for later reference. You can, of course, ask that a specific session not be recorded or for a copy of the recording to be given to you.
The pendulum is not a 'magical' device. It actually uses ideomotor responses to allow the subconscious to speak. The pendulum is held over a card with 'yes', 'no', 'maybe' and 'not right now' written on it and the subconscious will point to the 'real' answer to a question asked and, for the most part, avoiding any tampering or protective efforts from the conscious mind.
